Dossier Magazine

Another Purple Journal or the journal magazine is coming out in New York. Inspired by the French word for file, no themes, features or specific guidelines. Independently published Dossier is a bi-annual arts and culture journal incorporating fashion, photography, creative writing, art, music and culinary pursuits.

Dossier makes a magazine for readers who are both literate and image-obsessed. “The name “Dossier” comes from the French word for file,” explains creative director Skye Parrott. “That’s very much our idea: a file or a bunch of random papers bound together.” In the debut issue, photographs by Nan Goldin and David Armstrong share ground with recipes and haikus by chef Mario Batali. A fashion spread styled by designer Zac Posen squares with portfolios by artists Robert Longo and Francesco Clemente and writing by Yiyun Li. Parrott and art director Katariina Lamberg cut their teeth at Self Service, and, together with editorial director Katherine Krause, dreamt up the idea for Dossier five years ago over drinks at La Perle in Paris.
