Based in Stockholm, Sweden, .doris is a photography duo curated by Paulina Persson and Sarah Bolmsten , they shot lots of quiet and elegant pictures. Some days ago, they shot a photo collection called Gai Matin with some handsome boys, today, I invite them to talk about the creative experience.
Shall Zou: I know you are a fashion photography duo, how do you know each other and work together?

.doris: We met during our photographic studies in 2006 and found it natural to work together since we share the same views in the artistic world and of taking and making pictures. We are a team and work synched during photo shoots, either with one or two cameras and editing the result together.
Shall Zou: What made you want to create this collection? why is named Gai Matin?
你们是怎样想到要创作这个系列照片？为什么取名为晨祷同志？
.doris: The story Gai Matin is inspired by old portraits taken in Sweden during the beginning of the 20th century when homosexuality and homosexual acts were still forbidden. Small secret studios came to exist to document and act out the sexuality, yet in a very subtle way. The name is a word game and means “Joyful Morning” but the word Gai also reflects on Gay as in homosexual. A lot of the clothes have a domestic feeling to them and the story expresses a sense of calmness that you find during the early morning hours.
Shall Zou: Could you describe your photo style? quiet adventure?

.doris: We aim to be as honest in our photography as possible, lingering over to documentary stiles, beaux art and old portraits, often in a quiet and peaceful way.
Shall Zou: For you, what’s the greatest attraction of photography? what made you choose photography?
对你们来说，摄影最大的吸引力是什么？什么促使你们选择了摄影？
.doris: To be able to capture a moment and save it forever is an amazing thing. And to be able to share that moment with others is even greater. If people appreciate what we do it is definitely a bonus for us, but the drive comes from within with the goal to create everlasting tranquility and beauty in pictures. That is; photography that we ourselves never tire of.
Shall Zou: What are your biggest sources of inspiration?
最大的灵感源泉是什么？
.doris: Inspiration comes through everything. From life, from experiences, from dreams, from meetings. And of course from other fantastic photographers around the world.
Shall Zou: What does photography mean to you?
摄影对你们来说意味着什么？
.doris: Photography is not a profession, it is a way of life. We choose to document and experience our surrounding world. For us it is a kind of storytelling which makes it possible to escape reality for a while.
Shall Zou: As a photographer, what do you think the next challenge?
作为一名摄影师，你们认为接下来会有哪些挑战？
.doris: Every day is a challenge as a new photographer aiming to proceed to the next level within the business. We take one day at a time, or a week at a time, constantly planning our next shoot.
