Very quiet b&w photo sense and nature style, Jordi Gual is a Barcelona based professional photographer. I occasionally saw his photography on his Flickr, I was deeply moved, so I invited him do an short interview via email.

Shall Zou: Please tell us about yourself.
请介绍一下你自己。
Jordi Gual: Everything began quite early. My deep Dyslexia and my forceful myopia provoked on me some emotional imbalances from early age, but everything was solved soon to not be suitable for the studies … the second phase, on my 14 years I’d joined a school of art and there I started by lengthening my hours in the dark room,… and I believe that I continue there. My images are my radius of action, either visual, personal or emotional.
Shall Zou: What made you choose photography? I know you have shot lots of children, when you were a child, did you want to become a photographer?
什么让你选择摄影?我知道你拍摄了很多儿童的照片,你在童年的时候,有没有想过会成为一名摄影师?
Jordi Gual: Since I was young I was a devourer of cinema, specially the classics. I suppose that this endless doses of images affected somehow my subconscious.
A small window with four corners and the whole world through it ..
In my earlies years at school they observed according to words of the teacher…
Note:
” Jordi suffers emotional disorders ” We need a meeting as soon as possible.
Well-considered ,… surely they would have reason .. probably I continue on it.
It is like everything, a heap of circumstances… as a photography.

Shall Zou: In your creative process, what are you the most concerned about?
在你的创作过程中,最在意什么?
Jordi Gual: My radius of action it’s quite limited . It would be like my physical and emotional environment. Probably compulsive and messy emotions. There are no rules, no force, or too much fragility to come to the end …even to continue.
A state of mind or a soft relieve….
This small window that gives you thousand histories.
The freedom of exploring relations … or maybe there are some fears locked in it.
B&W photo is your favorite?
黑白摄影是你的最爱?
Jordi Gual: Sure it is. It simplifies the action, it gives me more shades for its different readings.
For my it’s very important to follow the whole process, from the shot to the final copy. I feel comfortable on having realized the whole process in my laboratory.

Shall Zou: What project has given you the most satisfaction?
你最满意的拍摄项目是什么?
I have one or two projects in mind. I’m in the habit of taking them parallel, even a simple image might be a project. I usualy take my small annotations or reflections that in some way might be a beginning of new projects. I think that to take images is an endless project… The one I have enjoy the most is a series of portraits to my major daughter Natalia.
Natalia is blind from birth. She gives me this vision of seeing someone who does not see you, but that feels you. I wanted to reflect her look beyond a simple portrait and to reflect her light throuhg her interior expression …. I called this series of images “The Look”.
Shall Zou: Is there any photographer from the past, you appreciate a lot?
有没有你特别欣赏的摄影师?
Jordi Gual: Actually I don’t have many books of photography, but when I get lost on any specializing bookshop I devour them…
Català Rock, Agustí Centelles, William Claxton, Josef Sundek, Robert Adams … etc.
My humble opinion is that every photographer is valid. The question is … what to photograph and why …?

Shall Zou: What inspires you?
什么激发你的灵感?
Jordi Gual: My mood influence me in the the observation. A walk, a song, a book, a breakfast, the family….
I am not in the habit of taking the camera everywhere, but my small book of annotations always goes with me. In it I describe places, situations, lights, times…
And I badly believe that some day I will return to these places…!
Shall Zou: What are you afraid of regarding the future?
你最担心未来发生什么?
Jordi Gual: For the tomorrow …? So,.. to get up ,to have breakfast and go on …. everything goes and comes so quickly. We all want to do everything. We all know ourselves, We all know everything.
